Podcast about TTRPGs around the world. Irregular release schedule.

If you are from a non-English speaking culture and in any way involved in TTRPGs, I am looking forward to your message!

I am kicking off a mini season of Western European countries (and possibly some outside Europe) speaking two major languages - and sometimes both of them! - with the Netherlands. Unfortunately there are some sound issues in some of the talks, on the other hand it includes a cat as a random guest.

Just checked some self-published German TTRPGs & remembered seeing a few in Germany last year, and then thought about a weird side project in which I read and review all of them. I will absolutely NOT do that for financial and sanity reasons, but if I find gems I might do a bonus episode about it.

I just "accidentally" recorded an interview about RPGs in Afro-Caribbean culture for a "Europe" episode, because colonies are still a thing.

Picture Monday: As a teaser for today's upcoming episode, here's a fascinating piece of independently developed TTRPG from 1980. I always ask myself "How would RPGs look like if they hadn't evolved out of wargaming in the US" and this is the closest we got. More about it in the episode.

My kid even went as the titular character for last week's dress up at school day, but I won't post pictures of my kid online so you'll just have to believe me.

Finally got an ebook reader again (was a bit tricky because I prefer a German model but don't live there anymore) and it's sooo cool that you can just buy extra volumes of a kid series to read your kid to sleep, without having to wait months and months. Into Volume 2 of The Worst Witch now.

I just started the second read of the German translation of Vos en Haas by Belgian author Sylvia Vande Heede to my kid and that's the funniest book ever, even though some Belgian friends told me the books really feel more Dutch with the aggressive language. 😄 www.moritzverlag.de/Alle-Buecher/Fuchs-und-Hase.html

Actually, I lived in Eastern Germany for 6 years and ran a campaign in which some of the players did indeed grow up in the GDR.

Just found out about a talk in May about TTRPGs in the German Democratic Republic (i.e. communist Eastern Germany). Soo exited about it! Hm, should I also cover countries on my podcast that don't exist anymore?

Gaming Inspiration: Watching the documentary Apocalypse in the Tropics on Netflix during lunch break (it's about the influence of evangelicalism on far-right politics in Brazil), and "Silas Malafaia" is such a good name for an evil NPC in an oWoD campaign.

For something non-gaming related, today marks the 14 year anniversary of my partnership with my wife. And of course we have that running gag about it just being a joke and what to do with that kid now 😜

I'm sad to say that work on #KOKOTÖNA will be put on hiatus until I can repair my PC

I could only salvage the ddr5, ssd and gpu, so if you can donate or want to commission me, I would really appreciate it

So, proof-listening the episode. It's not as bad as I thought it would be, and my amplifying bits might have verschlimmbessert it (that's a German slang word combining "worsening" and "improving"). In general OK though, come on, this is a one-person non-monetarized podcast not some day job.

You never stop learning. One thing I try to do more as a GM is include PC senses when describing situations. I think smell is really underutilized, because it gets such visceral reactions. What I absolutely refrain from doing though is tell players how their characters feel.

So the street cat my wife adopted and I were sitting in the bedroom watching some ants, and I started to whisper to the cat like Emperor Palpatine (well, OK, with a different target, the cat was not supposed to strike ME down)

What I then did is crank up the amplifier in her parts, but that still didn't really help. I will listen in on the episode first (I do that every time, because there's always some mistake) but I am a bit confused, this has never happened before.

Podcast Technical Stuff: Here's a weird thing that has never happened to me. I always run the finished episode through The Levelator to get equal levels, but this time it gave odd results for one interview, being a female voice with a "soft tone" I'd say. Usually it's just one big "wall of sound".

After watching most of SW on Disney for 1.5 years, I am slowly switching to Marvel Universe, and started rewatching S1 of Agents of SHIELD. Really enjoyed the first two episodes until I remembered that Joss Whedon is behind it. Sigh. I can still enjoy the actors I guess.

While on a business trip to Belgium, I found a book collection by @oneshotrpg.bsky.social and bought it, mistaking him for @diceexploder.com 😂. First name with A,M,S and last name beginning with D, also similar style of Bluesky profile pictures. And the books will probably be great anyways.
