One truly can only conclude this is because they like Trump and want him to rule us like a king

I rarely see this take get acknowledged but the 2010s mindset of equating all online writing as respectable journalism had so many unintended consequences. We're dealing with the product of an era that lionized almost every low-paid op-ed writer as if they were Cronkite and Upton Sinclair

trump could say something like "the earth is shaped like a bmw m5 cs" and the media would headline it as "Trump declares corruption in nasa"

I don’t agree with your conclusion but I truly can’t articulate a better one.

Came to that decision long ago and gave up wordle and the crossword. People say "well NYT still does good work, good reporters" but at this point that seems more like cover for the real goal.

They don't believe they will face consequences for all this. We really need to make sure they do. These papers deserve not a penny from any of us and all these reporters need to be social pariahs. They don't deserve to function in society until they show they aren't hell bent on its destruction.

They should have posted the full tweet. Then they should add context that readers might not know, for example bombing civilian infrastructure like power plants is a war crime in both US and international law. Instead they did this, so I think your conclusion is correct.

whether they like Trump is immaterial; they just like the idea of there being a king

if for no other reason than if Trump is a king then maybe they can be king some day too

I honestly doubt many at the NY Times likes Trump. I think institutionally they're terrified of being perceived as biased.

At the very least prioritising the fantasy of political decorum over accurately reporting the danger he poses.

My one consolation is that the man is clearly miserable at this point.

It can be argued that the simple majority of Americans, given their lack of knowledge and pathos towards improving such, would prefer a king as long as the position isn't called that exact word. I'm not surprised that the NYT would pander to the majority.

I want these “Christian” MAGAs to explain to me how this is acceptable on any day, let alone their second most Holy day.
If Obama, Biden, hell even Bush - Snr or Jnr - had done this shit they’d been calling for the gallows

Because he persecutes their perceived enemies, that’s all that matters to them

As a Christian myself this administration has made me want to *scream.* They do all sorts of reprehensible garbage, Trump in darn near every way is VIOLENTLY un-Christian, and yet he has the *gall* to parade around like he’s some religious, all-American moral authority. Despicable

They'll just say "he's an imperfect vessel for God's will" and then tell you how Obama will force their granddaughters to play 35 year old men in 6th grade dodgeball and how unfair it is.

They are doing America no favors by editing out the over-the-top unvarnished screaming which promises annihilation by this madman.

They don't necessarily like him but they do believe some sort of authoritarian rule makes sense.

@techconnectify.bsky.social Dutch paper keeps the insanity:

„Dinsdag is het in Iran de Dag van de Energiecentrale én de Dag van de Brug, alles in één,” schreef Trump zondagochtend (Amerikaanse tijd) refererend naar de burgerdoelen die hij al weken dreigt aan te vallen als Iran niet stopt met […]
