Never washed a corset before. (I'm older than dirt.) Ordered an inexpensive corset from Amazon. (Event is this weekend /no way I'll have full costume done.) Corset arrived and smelled of perfume/pesticides. Nope, feckity, nope! Into the wash! If it survives, fine. If not, garbage.

I meant to ask how it came out. How did you decide to wash, by hand?

Happily surprised, it's fine. Top loader (no agitator). Placed inside lingerie bag. Cold water; short cycle. Dried on lingerie rack outside. (Sewing stays, but life keeps requiring attention first. Slow progress.) I'll post pics later today.
