the saturation point is more qualitative or instinctual than quantitative. it feels a little like you're butting up against the wall of not knowing what you need to figure out further down the line, but still having enough to get started.

beforehand, i do as much research as i need to fill the gaps in my understanding of how the story needs to work. when i hit the saturation point of "you won't determine more without actually Doing", i start writing, jot down notes, look things up as i go, and rinse and repeat.

be careful of predatory contracts! (you can look up what happened with dreamspinner and darklit as examples). not all are blatantly evil, some of them are well-meaning but bite off more than they can chew, but it can still be harmful to you. can look at writer beware & also do research b4 signing!
