I've watched Star Trek without "Social Commentary":

It sucks. It's just a bunch of men surrounded by incredible technology making the most rash, petty, stupid decisions for 2 hours.

No thoughts after step 1.

I did a TNG rewatch on paternity leave years ago and the most consistent thing on the show is that if anyone is shooting at anyone else it is a total catastrophe. I'm not even really a fan.
