Not for simplicity and low cost, start with liquid salt pumps.
The Finns are using a low quality sand. It works, they've built a few units already.
Your assertion lacks evidence and doesn't stack up.

There are indeed solutions where you don't have to pump the liquid salt… furthermore, you can use higher temperatures for longer periods of time.
