There are indeed solutions where you don't have to pump the liquid salt… furthermore, you can use higher temperatures for longer periods of time.

Sand & hot air at 500 degrees & a simple structure of sheet metal container with insulation v molten salt at 500C+? & concrete structure?
No contest really & Finns have proven an effective system.
Higher temp not an advantage-heat loss is proportional to T power 3, we're talking minus 20C Finland

The liquid salt is completely pressureless, and the materials needed for the tank are also no rocket science
This allows for faster energy storage and quicker access to higher temperatures over longer periods, all within a smaller system.
