We have to grow the market somehow.

I'm sick of people never considering the shareholders.

The amount of times I’ve seen the first four panels happen is countless. Just praying for the final panel

The insta-combustible Tesla is self-cleaning….bc it’ll burn EVERYTHING around it. Not sure about Waymo cars, but they seem pretty deadly too.

Waymos are also electric and combustible. LA, California anti-ICE protesters called them and lit them on fire.

Except that as far as I can tell, Waymos are safer mile-for-mile than human drivers?

I don't get the need to be knee-jerkingly anti-tech, even at the expense of people's lives.

I think anybody who has actually ridden in one would agree with you. There’s nothing scary about them when compared to humans.

You’re right about Waymo specifically, but Tesla and others poison the well, and this is valid commentary on the industry as a whole. Tech has developed such a reputation for solving problems quickly and poorly that people are going to emotionally lump in actually good solutions.

They are safer than human drivers (embarrassingly low bar) under the current regime, yes. They also reinforce the supremacy of the personal automobile and increase total vehicle miles traveled, both of which are bad things. A bus is a better answer in the short term and in the long term it's a tram.

Remember, not only this: But it also cost trillions of dollars!

We cannot possibly afford social safety nets, though.

Appropriate reaction to this toon is Mick Jagger’s, “Santa Monica” call-out from Dancing in the Streets with David Bowie.

this is why alt text is so necessary, because frankly I had no idea what I was looking at in the first panel, and that made the rest of the comic indecipherable

At the rate we're going, you'll be able to add an extra panel involving a self-flying airplane just a few years from now! ♥
