You’re right about Waymo specifically, but Tesla and others poison the well, and this is valid commentary on the industry as a whole. Tech has developed such a reputation for solving problems quickly and poorly that people are going to emotionally lump in actually good solutions.

If they want to criticize Tesla, then they should do that (and I'd probably agree), but what's in the comic is pretty clearly not a Tesla, which is why I mentioned Waymo specifically.

Especially ones like Waymo that still have limited reach, and so most people still have no direct experience with and so no personal reason to trust them.

Comics like these reduce, rather than increase, trust with Waymo. Which give the safety records of Waymo and humans, is going to get more people hurt and killed.

It's just irresponsibly farming anti-tech sentiment for likes.
