I worked with Bryce 7 last year and rendering a short animated scene at like 20 seconds at 15 FPS with era appropriate resolution still took around 40-50 minutes or so.

Was the renderer still CPU-bound, maybe?

(That rocks, BTW, is the project/scene in question up anywhere?)

Oh man, this was partly the exact reason I replaced the ‘040 in my Performa with one that had an FPU.

Link didn't embed in QT so just making a separate post:

The Infinite Mac emulator - infinitemac.org/1993/System%207.1.1 - has Bryce 1 under "Infinite HD - Graphics - KPT Bryce", if anyone feels like rendering their own space landscapes

Sneaky Pete Kleinow, Kai Krause and Photoshop were the reason I bought my first Macintosh

Wow, what a blast from the past. I used Bryce to render graphics for my websites back in the 90s.

Also: God, I'm old.

I remember overnight 640x480 renders in Bryce on my Quadra 610! We can probably do it realtime now on a raspberry pi.

This and Poser3D were my two favorite bootleg floppies.
