Tax incentives for future data centers will now require voter approval.

Good news.

If big tech want their AI data centers they should ensure that people's utilities bills will not be affected adversely.

They need to invest in clean/green tech, such as: solar, wind, thorium nuclear. And support govt green/clean policies that promote sustainability.

why on earth would tax incentives be offered for a data center??? there is nothing else on offer. employment is at most a handful of low-level engineers and security guards. otherwise electricity and water usage skyrockets. there is no contribution to the community.

And why are data centers not required to do simple things like put up enough solar panels to power their operations and recycle water like a car wash?

I am no civil engineer but it seems to me not enough thought and planning has gone in to creating a win-win situation for company & community.

It's because they were left in the dark and the local govt kept the current data center development a secret until it was too late and screwed over the community. Construction started without having a public conversation.
