saying this half-jokingly, but if the rest of the nation had the same levels of news exposure as a lot of us on here, most of them would go insane within a week

I'm pretty sure that this is something documented. If you didn't grow up paying attention in social studies and language arts and all of the sudden as an adult spend a few minutes learning about (gestures hands wildly) then it can cause a lot of painful dissonance. Humans are great at avoiding that.

A. Bold of you to assume insanity isn’t already the default, har de har
B. I’m already quite clear that my neurodivergent brain loves absorbing information at levels that would melt many NT brains, tyvm. Introvert to people, extrovert to data!

You’re not wrong.
I figured it was safe to go out in social media today because it’s Easter & we’re all supposed to be thinking about rebirth & forgiveness.

I was wrong.

I'm, non-jokingly, often am highlighting that desire of some circles to post and re-post non-stop gruesome gore from Gаzа (mixed with images from Syria and generated images ascribed to be Gаza) is a way of turning people into bulbs of traumatic hatred ready to explode against others or oneself.

How can you expect me to focus on the basketball brackets AND the news?
Oh, there's the destination wedding too. And I have yet to catch up on that SLC Housewife. I have priorities, ya know.

I truly never thought the mainstream response to an insane fascist takeover would be to mostly ignore it. I guess it is a defense mechanism or something.

If the traditional press didn't sanitize and sanewash Trump to the extent they do, some of them would even without the same levels of exposure

Yeah, much as it feels like the news media’s complicit with constant sanewashing and bothsidesing I’ve also wondered if it’s just straight up “we don’t want to be responsible for mass panic and rioting” rationalization from the few remaining editors who want to cling to a sense of ethical journalism

There is literally a cognitively-failing, racist half-wit presently and personally deciding whether human history is going to change dramatically this week. It’s not good.

Yes. It’s a core reason why the NY Times writes the headlines it does. Honest headlines now drive readers away.
