Your experience has been an incomplete one. Ask yourself if your desire to inflict shame is because they deserve to be punished or because you deserve to do some punishing. Neither is good, but it may help you figure out why punitive measures seem acceptable when education and allyship are options

If I were to post something untrue, and incite a bunch of misplaced hatred towards the subject, while also seeing I was misled from other replies, and not correct the record, I’d deserve a little shaming.
