Your experience has been an incomplete one. Ask yourself if your desire to inflict shame is because they deserve to be punished or because you deserve to do some punishing. Neither is good, but it may help you figure out why punitive measures seem acceptable when education and allyship are options

No, you wouldnt. Mistakes and easy-to-correct shortsighted decisions don't inherently warrant punishment.
