I think the notion that culture has stopped meaningfully iterating comes purely from the perspective of people who have decided that history ends with them. It's easy to believe that nothing has changed in the past 20 years if you consistently regard anything that has changed as illegitimate.

I don't think Sora being discontinued is actually a win, whatsoever. I think what actually happened is that OpenAI now has DoD funding and support and no longer needs to pretend to sell anything but mass surveillance.

I've heard a lot of people say modern fantasy aesthetics are uninspired, but I don't really feel like this is the case. If anything, they're overly fantastical to the point where the incessant worldbuilderness fails to provide a grounded reference point and it all comes off as meaningless gibberish
