Trying to generalize this into “giving money to bigots makes you a bad person” is a bonkers take, as your thread points out. But what you’re arguing against is a straw man made up by people trying to rationalize their behavior behind “no ethical consumption under capitalism”

Capitalism has conflated liking something with spending lots of money on it. They’re different things! Enjoy the books, films, games, merch you’ve already purchased.

Nah mate, you are starting from a flawed premise.

If you engage in activities that give JK Rowling money, you’re a bad person, because she is—by her own admission—using that money to persecute trans people.

It really is that specific.

Tom Honan is out there saying the ICE agents being put in airports “have high-level training” and I need folks to understand that “high-level training” and “highly trained” are not the same thing. “high-level training” basically means the agents have gotten a crash course.

In 2003-2004 I worked at a call center supporting Adobe Acrobat. frequently had to explain that the rectangle tool was not a redaction tool. The problem that prompted the call? their “redacted” PDF printed unredacted because annotations didn’t print by default.

I feel like it would cost less in both storage and compute to simply mirror the entirety of gamefaqs’ faqs on every xbox console.

Has anyone made a video that takes the clip of Trump asking for “Ave Maria” to be played and then smash cuts to the end of the invention exchange from “Pod People”?

I needed a name that was:
- Irish
- Spelled like it sounds
- ideally starts with N so my initials stay the same

There are shockingly few names that clear the first two criteria!

As someone who had a kid in boy scouts, them capitulating to Trump is the least surprising thing ever.

what level of capitalism are we in when I have to agree to a ToS that revokes my ability to participate in a class action lawsuit against them in order to read a fuckin news article???

dear @mothership.blog

this is too meta for a formal “dear mother” 😅

1. has the subscriber discord launched yet?
2. is there a preferred way to submit website feature requests? (discord seems the natural answer, but see question 1)

Not a joke, just some established canon from the games. Not a reference to current events at all.

so the latest bsky app update seems to have enabled “play videos/gifs automatically” by default. If you *dont* want to hear every random video as you scroll your feed, go in to Settings > Content & media and turn off “Autoplay videos and GIFs”

my reasoning is simple: the superbowl represents the last, best hope for greater fools. if a superbowl ad—something seen by nearly everybody—isn’t enough to become sustainable, you’re dead.

good riddance to bad rubbish.

now this prediction is based on nothing more than two data points: the Dot Com crash of 1999/2000, and the crypto crash of .. whenever that was? both of which happened within a year of their respective superbowl blitzes.

Last year, I made a pre-game prediction: if we saw ads promoting AI, the bubble was going to pop within 12-18 months.

we didn’t get any AI super bowl ads last year. I’ve seen two already in just the first quarter.

this is buried at the end of a thread but it is worth elevating.

don’t use biometrics on devices that are logged into Signal!

passwords and passcodes can’t be compelled. neither touch nor face id require you to be conscious or alive to unlock.

case in point:

we are at a moment in time where "abolish ICE" is a centrist position, and Chuck Schumer is pushing to "restrict and reform" ICE. And it's not because he's dumb enough to think ICE can be fixed with policy, it's because they want to use ICE themselves when they regain power.

The thing I miss most about migrating from Switch 1 OLED to Switch 2 is going back from the SPP to joycons. At least the Switch 2 joycons are large enough to avoid the cramping I had on Switch 1 joycons, but they're still a downgrade from the SPP.
