Why are some countries allowed to have nuclear weapons but if other countries have them America decides that’s not ok?

Why don’t we collectively decide NO countries should have nuclear weapons?

I suppose the other ‘technical’ answer is that this is what was agreed in 1970 by most countries:

…although the second pillar of this agreement, which goes to your question, and which seems to be rarely talked about, is the obligation on all states to engage in good-faith negotiations to completely eliminate them.

I think it's down to some countries not being stable democratically, or being on the record as saying that they would like to wipe some countries off the map. Basically we know that if a nuclear attack were to happen on Israel, then they would respond and the whole Middle East would be wiped out.

So you remove the nuclear weapons capibility from those countries, even if they need uranium for their nuclear power plants. What this doesn't take into account is what happens if a country elects a mad man with access to the nuclear codes.
