The National Food Museum™ will be the first nationally significant museum that explores America and Americans through the lens of food: what we eat, what influences our food choices, food’s enormous effects on our health and the environment, and more.

Beyond the physical comedy, this I Love Lucy moment is a permanent part of 1950s Americana. At the NFM, we preserve the intersection of pop culture and our culinary heritage—chaos and all.

HHS told Medicare-funded hospitals to replace ultra-processed foods, sugar drinks, and fried foods with vegetables, whole grains, healthy oils, and other healthy foods. A bold move, but questions remain regarding legal authority, costs, and the exact definition of "healthy fats."

Our founder recently weighed in on the "Salt Wars" in the Washington Post. While some argue over the "sweet spot" for sodium, the data is clear: cutting salt lowers blood pressure and protects your heart.

When you adjust for inflation, milk actually costs 50% less today than it did 50 years ago.

While the price of a gallon has gone up in dollars, our relative purchasing power for dairy has actually improved significantly since the '70s!

Jerusalem!

When cooking for company, a great stand-by cookbook is Jerusalem, by Yotam Ottolenghi. The book features many meatless dishes, and every one we've tried is absolutely delicious. Some recipes involve a lot of chopping, but the effort is worth the work.

Fighting Dyes for 50 years!
Congrats to the Feingold Association of the US. Soon after Dr. Ben Feingold shocked Americans by arguing that food dyes may trigger ADHD, FAUS began helping parents protect their kids. 50 years later, the world has begun solving the problem.

The red states are leading the efforts to prevent obesity by reducing consumption of sugar drinks. They are barring the use of SNAP to buy those drinks. This shouldn’t be a partisan issue. Come on blue states!

Peter Menzel traveled around the globe & asked average families to display the foods they had consumed in a week. Interestingly, the poorer the country, the fewer processed foods they consumed. American families’ displays had mostly soda, chips & other processed foods.

Yay Chiquita!

Most food ads now are for unhealthy packaged foods and restaurant meals, so it’s refreshing to see this ad for—bananas! The ad, shown only in theaters, didn’t preach “low-fat, high-potassium” but was an amusing lesson on how to eat bananas.

The new Dietary Guidelines for Americans is a shocker! 🥦 Real food wins, but a 🥩 meat & dairy push ignores decades of heart science. Is it 1950 again? Hey, #MAHA, #RFKJr: Take on the Booze Industry

Alcohol kills 178K Americans annually! Plus non-fatal spouse abuse, auto crashes, cancers, ruined careers, birth defects, etc. It’s time to support warnings in ads and labels & raising alcohol taxes (not raised since '91).

UPFs likely promote obesity, type 2 diabetes, stroke, kidney disease, and more. Most of the harm may be due to their high sugar, salt, and fat content, but additives might contribute. Kudos to San Francisco for suing 10 companies for the harm their UPFs cause.
