I want to support my local businesses. Could my local businesses stop fucking using AI to promote their shit?! Take a photo and slap some text on it jfc

there's a bubble tea place, supposedly quite tasty and across the street from the good grocery store, and i still haven't been because their site is plastered with awful ai... kawaii shit? if there was ever a business that'd be charming for using their niece's drawing of an anime bunny, but no. slop

Our favorite local pizza joint has all AI images on their menu and website. I have emailed/messaged them offering to literally do free product photography instead, just because it looks so untrustworthy and we want them to stick around! Their actual food looks GREAT, I don't know why the hell

they wouldn't just have an employee with a cell phone take some photos and it would at least look less trash than what they have now. They've never responded. Baffling

I have this exact conflict but with animal rescue and queer community groups - I wanna support you but you are promoting your group/event/campaign using weird AI slop!

The inn down the road is using AI to show images of their traditional Scottish breakfast. How hard is it to take a photo of eggs?? 🙃

And you’re telling me you don’t know your employees enough that not one of them has interest in art and/or graphic design?

They don't care about employees

but then they would have to pay them to make art on-the-clock and they can’t have that! that’s not /real/ work! 🙄

The only problem with this is, and its something I ran into personally when I putting myself through school and doing freelance design work, the company I worked for asked/expected me to do design work for them on the clock and I was like hell fuckin no. It created a ton of static in the workplace.

As someone who’s lived in a lot of places where the local businesses are run by people every bit as evil as the most virulent corpos, I feel this hella. The Nazi mechanic, the old Christian pharmacy, it all just feels like a more expensive take on the same concerns.
