I love how even with it being all prettied up (gorgeous btw) that I think I can see SpaceEngine underneath?

That program has inspired so much wonder in me.

I love Space Engine, but this is just Blender :)

Did you draw this frame by frame? Or is this a 3D effect?

It's a processed 3d render in Blender :)

I love that Interstellar gave us all such cool and likely accurate reference for black holes based on data from NASA 🛰️

Every single pixel was placed by hand over the time span of five million years :D

To achieve this we must make the roundest and densest object in the know universe.

It's a render more or less directly from Blender :)

yo you gotta upload this somewhere with less aggressive compression, bluesky's video compression doesn't do this masterpiece justice 😭

They have to add proper gif support sooner or later 😢

Cool thing about black holes since they've bend light, you actually see the back and the front at the same exact time

This is incredible!! How did you even make this?

Let me clarify (because I don't mean to imply you're not skilled enough or something like that lol). Did you "free-hand" animate this? Or was it like made as a 3D model then pixelized?

Been working on this stuff for the past five years, and it never gets boring haha :D
Blender keeps getting new features and I am trying to utilize everything as best as I can, such as the real-time compositor I used for the repalette process here.

is the accretion disk just a sprite, or is it a part of the black hole shader?

It's a separate plane with a shader :)

decided to write my own black hole shader in #godot. ill never be able to compete with you, but im happy with how it turned out haha

First off I want to say this is very beautiful! Secondly, I want to share that I misread this and thought you typed "Black hole with prosciutto-C64"

Yes, but here you land on a black hole and due to the effects of extreme time dilation you can never lose (or win!)

you should have had a 8 minute wait before it starts to really give it c64 vibes. loads of colourful lines dancing on the screen for no apparent reason. it was wild.

How'd you get this to display so well on bsky? I can see the compression but as a whole it holds up really well. I can't find a way to convert mine to videos in a way that bluesky won't mangle them by re-encoding whenever I upload. Black hole for example (if this looks fine I'll eat my hat)

Yeah no need to eat my hat this looks terrible

I think it might have something to do with the low color count; I'm also trying to upload stuff at least at 3x, preferably 4x upscale resolution... but yeah, it usually gets mangled at least a bit :/
