There's countless gamers who learned about good music from THPS and GTA games that they wouldn't have listened to on their own.

The main reason I'm excited for GTA VI is so it can reset my music tastes again via the radio playlists the way IV and V did.

Rockstar games in general have been really good at introducing gamers to artists and music they wouldnt have heard of otherwise.
Like the gta games have always had a good mix of chart toppers with niche underground tracks.
The Max Payne 3 ost was done by cum-metal's Health, and RDR2 featured D'angelo

The Wipeout series was great for my exposure to new music. Also the first time I ever heard The Prodigy’s “Firestarter” was through that in the 90s.

literally THPS introduced me to SKA which without it, I wouldn't have found until like 10 years later from my then roommate who loved it too.

I didn't really engage with the Fallout series until the Amazon show came out. I now own several records from musicians like The Ink Spots, Ella Fitzgerald, and others. I even play them in my classroom for my students at times, who really enjoy it. So I agree!

Every generation needs to learn about how fucking sick apocalyptica and rage against is. Even their cringe spots makes for good fuel to get inspired to listen to cool shit and sometimes you need to make an amv in your head when you play video games.

Not THPS nor GTA for me, but Burnout 3 Takedown and Need for Speed Most Wanted are pretty much the foundation to my taste in music. Also Marvel VS Capcom 1.

90% of my music interest today is genres that video games opened the door to me on, from THPS to Rock Band. So yeah I concur. As long as it's like...fitting.

Or hell, at least a bit silly like My Way in Stranger of Paradise

id been thinking after reading this, and i finally came back to this and realized the funniest bit of music discovery I've ever had is Push Kings. a 90s band i would have NEVER heard of, if not for Road Trip. sincerely we need more devs to just plug in music they enjoy, good or bad, obscure or not.

Pro Skater 1-4 had some great music. Even just yesterday I was listening to Del's If You Must, Bad Religion's You, etc.

Birdman got a baller playlist for all his games, what can I say?

I wouldn't have learned guitar if not for THPS3. I mean, I literally have a Motorhead - Ace of Spades guitar hanging on the wall above my computer desk right now! Those games changed my life.

Brutal Legend was fucking iconic for its licensed soundtrack too (Angel Witch! Brocas Helm! Mirrorthrone!!)

This is so real. I got a friend who’s a little up their ass about music and made fun of me for listening to music I learned about through references in JJBA. Like man, how was I supposed to find out about it? Typing “good music” into a search engine?
