Initiative is such a nebulous concept. I've often heard that if you show initiative or willingness you might get more work piled on you. Even managers can sometimes get told to 'show more initiative'. What initiative? Why not just tell people what should they do?

There was this TikTok video about a girl explaining what was 'taking initiative' in work setting. The example was about getting documents for your boss for an important presentation. But it feels too generalized as a Gen Z issue which pissed me off, and misses a lot of nuances.
