It really is insane what we keep doing, especially when there are perfectly safe, effective, and economically viable alternatives.

"change is scary" is such a strong emotion that is makes people incurious about those alternatives.

My strongest evidence for this is the fact I keep having to explain you can charge electric cars at home.

It's strange to me because the progress we've been making towards electrification + renewables has been one of the few things still giving me hope for the future.

More than that, scary things get ingrained as wrong or offensive. As soon as something becomes a matter of right/wrong the human brain starts to draw lines to protect their identity and idea of 'self'.

It takes a lot to cross that line, but we desperately need more people to do so.

I firmly believe that "change is scary" really is the core of the issue. Misinformation, confirmation bias, it all just reinforces this central problem.

I even catch myself thinking unreasonably about new topics sometimes, and can trace it back to "I don't want change", rather than sound arguments.

Also don't forget about the Proƒit$™ for the few.

Furthermore, don't know about charging; have bike paths and sandwiches here.

I worry people will think I'm being snarky here. I'm not.

It *does* astonish me in a sort of "how could you not know that" way but it's also a good reminder that there are, in fact, gaps in knowledge that are easy to fill and can change minds quickly.

It's why I'm always looking for 'em

Right? Who among us can truly say "But I will miss the charm and ambiance of gas stations, the lovely views and smells and patrons"
