Nope. It’s very real. Tesla loudly advises to charge to 80% at most. There was also a thorough study of this a few years ago. Will try to find it.

The tl;dr is that you ideally want to keep the battery dancing around 50%, as much as possible.

Indeed found one, it appears SoC is the acronym for "battery %" and charging at just below 50% like like it makes batteries last the longest, while almost 0% kills it fast

That being said, this is when you start charging it again, not what you charge it up to. I can't really find anything on that, but there's so much terminology it's hard to know where to look

Alright no here's a better one, but this is under artificial "constant" conditions and the previous paper mentions dynamic, real world conditions have battery life fairing better. Still, 85%-25% > 100%-40%.

Still, after 5k cycles difference is like 5%, and that's from starting baseline not relative. So it's hardly catastrophic to charge to 100%.

Seems way more important to not get down to 10% before plugging in.
