Does anyone recognize this connector? I’m thinking it’s VHDCI (perhaps for a SCSI drive?) but not sure.

Given what this device is... I also wouldn't be surprised if the port is used for something completely different outside of a generic laptop dock... Unless the pinout can be confirmed, I would caution concluding on its function...!!! Though... also wouldn't be surprised if it is just a dock port...

these IBM micro channel SCSI look like the male end equivalent, although yours is 40 pin and these are 60.

Why do you think it's SCSI? Look at the alignment lugs.
