kinda like how xiv crafting is a battle against your items and stamina. we could pvp by sharing "quips" and "comebacks" or even "your mother jokes" that we can of course customize with flavor text.

Yesss, I love xiv crafting especially turn-ins specifically because the rng elements make it so that "damage" ie increasing quality/collectibility is not the only thing you're gunning for at all times

I love what they did on Cosmic Exploration. Multiple recipes that break the mold, some high progress requirements with almost 0 quality required, some crafts with 20 durability that requires planning on which actions to use, etc.

Only thing I hate is the TIMED expert crafts. Why put it on a timer!?

There's the Sea of Thieves Monkey Island DLC, but it probably wouldn't quite scratch that it.

people could class as a "brute" who only has crude insults (though how crude is largely up to the player) or a "gentlefolk" who belittles opponents with public shame and smart talk.

and then maybe there'd be a charming class that would receive buffs for being surrounded by a crowd, but feel practically naked and defenseless (socially, anyway) when alone.

A tactical form of L.A. Noire is actually such a sick idea.
