It was one thing to, "give him a chance" in 2016 (even though it wasn't) but to double down again was just astoundingly ignorant and foolish by the electorate.

I agree, but in Trump's first term, his cabinet members kept the worst of his impulses in check (including the insurrection to some degree). They were a backstop against tyranny. Voters expected that to happen again, in spite of repeatedly being warned about Project 2026.
