Every time you buy a Harry Potter product, you are financing the dismantling of trans rights

There's practically countless other magical fantasy series out there to admire. People need to stop being so dedicated to a solitary book series and just go read more.

i haven't read any of that bastard's books because i didn't see the appeal of wizard people and fantasies to me at first. right after this whole transphobic stuff she said it dropped me out of any interest and i do admit i'm glad i have never bothered reading those books at the first place.

The magic wharever-it-was I bought umpteen years ago didn’t work, so I haven’t bought anything else Potter since then

So Voldemort's whole thing is that only pure blooded magical people should be witches or wizards. Mrs. Rowling's whole thing is that only pure blooded females are allowed to be women. So she became her own villain.

i know it’s been true for years but crazy to me she claims to care about women’s rights so much when her only focus is trans people. If she actually cared or had any principles she would focus her attention equally on multiple fronts but she doesn’t at all. It’s only hate.

A few years ago there was an epic slap-back from Irish feminists when the British “feminists” got up in arms about Ireland amending its gender recognition laws.

“You colonisers care to comment now, and not when we were fighting for abortion access?”

"Sex-based rights" implies that some rights belong to one sex or another. For example, the right to vote or to control the reproductive rights of those with ovaries. Not a feminist position at all.

Does anyone understand why people are so obsessed with it?

Please leave people live the way they like and choose as long as they don't harm anyone. I really don't get it.

Habit, I think. They got into it while they were young, and bonded with what they thought it was.

What is it that makes her this way? Her movies clearly embody the need for acceptance, and the eschewing of bullies. I’m at a loss to understand the real her vs her literary persona. That being said, no more Harry Potter for us.

She's lonely and sad with no friends, I believe.

Apparently, she has a very toxic personality even in person. And now it got reinforced with oodles of money.

If she had kept her big mouth shut, HP could have been seen as a trans allegory, and from what I understand, plenty of trans kids saw it as much. But nooooooo... she had to betray her fans and weaponize her greatest (if often problematic) accomplishment to spread an agenda of hate.

Sadly, I think people no longer care, or want trans people dead because they're "annoying".

Either way, they should be blocked out of our lives.

The sheer amount of time, thought, energy, and money she must constantly put in, just to hurt people who never caused her any harm and who are just trying to live their life in peace...
I will never be able to wrap my head around people like her. I don't get it.

Why doesn’t she pick something else, like lifting single moms out of poverty? That’s what she was experiencing years ago.

Probably because it isn't on the first pages of tabloids. The kind of necessary work that needs doing but won't make other rich, bored white people fawn over you.

She used to. Remember when she dropped off the Forbes 500 list because she’d donated so much money to charity? She was a big supporter of international human rights NGOs. I think Twitter melted her brain.

She doesn’t actually care about making people’s lives better. She only cares about furthering her wealth and influence, just like every other billionaire

I think in part it's because she has dug herself so far down into the anti-trans hole, that to her, the only way out is to keep digging..

I can never understand why she does it. It makes no sense. She has the money to help thousands of women. But refuses to lift a finger to do so.

I genuinely can’t understand why she chooses to be a monster instead.

She doesn't have any empathy for poor women because she can't relate to them as someone who identifies as formerly poor, but whose idea of being "poor" was staying with her upper middle class relatives while she was finding herself.

If HP is a load-bearing fandom in your mind, sorry, but you need to keep it to yourself, even if you disapprove of Rowling. Don't buy HP products. Don't even pirate HP media. And if you go to Universal Epic Universe, avoid the wizard park. Better that the HP fandom be closeted than trans people.

Also it’s boring and bad and the magic system is trash. Sorry if you liked it as a kid!

It may not seem fair, especially if you're one who "separates the art from the artist," but trans people's jobs, health, homes, and lives are at stake. Displaying HP stuff sends a signal that you support JK, regardless of whether you actually do, which makes trans people feel uncomfortable/unsafe.

There should be no such thing as "sex based rights". All humans should have the same set of "rights". To elevate or degrade any human based on sex or gender is to declare that some have lesser rights than others. If sex, why not race, or religion, or language of choice or place of birth?

What TF are "sex-based rights" anyway?

A cozy position within the patriarchy, subordinate to men but explicitly above *those* people. (It’s not a coincidence that terfistry is largely a white woman’s hobby).

I just want to add in as an aside here: engaging only with a subfandom of Harry Potter and only on AO3 etc. is still helping keep the Potterverse alive and well, it's still giving shade and water to folks who still do happily pay That Wizard Bitch real money.

If it's in your life, cut it out.

That's why I am about to sell my (german) first print Harry Potter Novels (all of them) plus my BD-Box Set ...

I really like Harry Potter and the universe that is created around him, but I can't stand Rowling any longer.

Cis women being asked to prove their gender before using a public bathroom or locker room bc of insane, transphobic laws should overwhelm the fund, asking for legal help. They haven’t made anyone safer by policing gender.

Harry Potter is a racist, bigoted, divisive piece of fiction. The "mudblood" thing should have warned us.

I really don't like the "Ugly Duckling" trope stories. Ugly ducklings grow up to be ugly ducks. If they are swans they are rendered ugly by the hateful "I'm better than you" myth borne out.
