Mehdi Hasan doesn't support Palestinians; he just uses them. He's campaigned against Israel for a long time and has been associated with pro-russians such as Max Blumenthal, not to mention his work for Al Jazeera and the Intercept. And that's not even mentioning his remarks about non-believers etc.

The timing is not quite that - the protests were in steep decline in the fall of 2024, due to cohort change. Jewish students at Columbia and such reported a sharp fall in anti-Semitism then compared with the 2023-24 academic year.
