I finally watched Terminator 1 & 2 for the first time and surprise, they were awesome. The genre switch from horror to action was a cool way to get everything out of both movies without becoming redundant.

But most importantly now I know the context to the fucking skeleton explosion gif.

Love both of these. T2 is still one of the greatest action films ever made!

The real messed-up part is that experts say this is the most accurate depiction of nuclear war put to screen

Also I really enjoyed the soundtrack to the first movie, lots of moody 80's synthesizer (moog?)

I saw this when I was about 7 years old, and of course had nightmares about it for weeks :)

Always thought it was a neat coincidence how it and Alien/Aliens shared such similar aspects, the switch from horror to action, aswell as having iconic women leads, going from last survivor to action survivor.

When I saw Terminator in the theater it was crazy because he gets hit by the truck and you think okay they got him. Then Reese blows him up and you think okay now they got him. Then even when getting pressed he keeps going. It was so suspenseful it was nuts.

Two excellent movies, T2 being practically perfect.
On no account watch any of the sequels which add literally nothing and no good will come from.
Leave it with Sarah Connor driving hopefully into the night ...

That scene really disturbed me as a kid. I was just channel hopping and they happened to be airing T2, and so I didn't even have any context for the scene.

There's a lot of movie scenes that kinda traumatized me back then, that ended up as memes or popular gifs. It's interesting to think about lol

The only two Terminator movies anyone will ever need.

I love the first one. It was a classic of its time. Cameron was disturbed by the popularity of the terminator itself. The film was becoming a cult hit with bikers and anarchist groups (attack of police station etc) and purposefully addressed this with T2. Still a great film but lost its dark edge.

We had this on VHS as a kid and this part always spooked me way more than anything else in the movie.

It's fun watching other movies in the 1980s do the same switch. Alien → Aliens did the same kind of thing.

That was Linda Hamilton’s twin, Leslie (RIP), in the playground with the kids, and Linda Hamilton herself getting fried at the fence.

the skeleton explosion scene is insane for how much it actually hammers in the nightmare
