That allowed me a little more room to actually say something specific about the importance of those non-material contributions beyond just a professional credit they could use on a CV.

Conversely, one of the people in the acknowledgements who is not on the credits has not read the book because they said that, knowing what they do about me, it was too difficult. It would have felt odd to professionally credit a person who provided no actual input. Yet their existence was important.
