Just bumbling along, clinging to the wreckage.

Inspired by my Christmas films thread from last year - here are all the films I’ve seen at the cinema this year, with the thrill of marks out of 10 for each of them. #2025movies

America has gone completely mental, and amongst the problems with the way they are acting is that there is nothing that they can complain about if American people and infrastructure are targeted in terrorist attacks, or indeed if leaders are directly targeted for assassination or kidnap.

Your numbers don’t add up (if it’s the Scottish referendum you are talking about). But I’m afraid you just keep on extrapolating off into made up arguments that I haven’t put to you, I’m sure you can continue this debate with yourself and don’t require my presence. You might even win.

Obviously I am probably wrong, because the critics have seen things in these movies that elevate them, but I found both cold and clinical, and with plenty of baddies, but not really with many goodies! Also, Sean Penn won awards for that?

Curious now that I’ve finally seen One Battle After Another and previously saw Sinners as to why these were the ones battling it out for Best Picture. OBAA has 2 characters who are not extreme caricatures (Willa and Sensei) but does have a nicely shot car chase scene. Sinners was pretty average.

It’s ironic that supporting democracy is protesting against two democratic decisions. I’m not against anyone saying or believing whatever they want. Take to the streets, wave your banners and flags, fill your boots.

It’s amusing because the Scottish people voted against independence and the American people voted for Trump. You can believe in your causes but I’m not sure it fits being badged under democracy,

Launching SNL UK at a point when America is catastrophically unpopular in the UK (and let’s face it everywhere) and just a few weeks after SNL US managed to make fun of a British guy’s neurological condition and the charity that support people with that condition seems … unlikely to succeed.

I shall once again plead for a period of silence from our noisy cousins in America. Stop bringing the world into chaos, stop causing economic mayhem and stop doing all there things and then moralising to the rest of the world in your spare time.

I will watch Bugonia eventually, again, less than 2 hours, well done. Everybody needs to stop making films that go on for hours and hours, I don’t have time for this. And my favourite film last year was The Long Walk.

My Oscars take on Best Picture is that I’ve only seen 1 of the films nominated. I have had loads of opportunity to watch Frankenstein and F1 but can’t be bothered. Sinners was kinda meh, and I’ll probably watch One Battle one day. Train Dreams is only 102 minutes long, give them the award.

If any Americans are curious about this at all, please feel free to ask any of us non-Americans how much we respect your country at the moment.

4) The Man Who Can’t Be Moved - the Script are not romantic, just emotionally abusive blackmailing of this poor girl.

3) I Want You Back - the Jackson 5 did not deserve her back, they didn’t want her until someone else came along and now suddenly the jealousy kicks in, too late bub.

2) Working my way back to
You - “I used to love to make you cry, it made me feel like a man inside” - You absolute POS, no, you shouldn’t be allowed to work your way back to her at all!

Because nobody asked for it, and sometimes you need to get these things out … romantic songs that are really actually not at all romantic.
1) Everlasting Love - including the line “I went away, just when you needed me so” - and now he’s back with some allegedly everlasting love, eh?

I wonder if anybody from SNL UK is going to distance themselves from the American version and its controversy in the last week. I can’t imagine it’s good publicity for their launch, but they seem unlikely to condemn their parent show, especially with Tina Fey hosting.

I’ll add that I am very unimportant on here and don’t expect anyone to read or care what i think, but don’t use me as part of your ego trip of having followers or try to sell me your tour, show, substack if you don’t think I am worthy of speech.

I used to have a real bugbear back when Twitter was vaguely acceptable around people who restrict comments on their posts. Obviously everyone should do what they wish, but if you decide you are only on transmit and do not want to hear any replies or disagreements, i ain’t here to be your audience.

To be doing all of these things and ever try to morally lecture anyone else in the world takes a special kind of arrogance. Trump is an utter disgrace of a human, but he is simply showing the dark heart of modern America. It makes me feel sad, but we could all just do with less of you right now.

In the middle of a major contender for next president turning up to the rest of the world’s leaders with knee pads because he wants to tell them they all kneel to Trump. And btw, your rich and powerful are exposed as being linked to a massive sex trafficking and paedophilia scandal, with no action.

It’s been a funny few months when sadly we get to see that almost every part of the USA seems to be utterly morally broken. An administration that seems to believe only in doing bad things, and the wrong way. And the joy of the last week where Hollywood and liberal SNL join forces to mock disability
