I've been putting this off for too long, but I need to do one of those "looking for work posts." I'm open to full-time, part-time, or freelance work in either games or films media/criticism.

I have experience as a news writer, interviewer, video editor, sound editor, and essayist.

At the very least, I had a blast playing it with path-tracing on PC. That finally feels like the true execution of what Nvidia promised ray-tracing would be. It's a shame you need something like my $4,000 PC to run it that way.

More than anything, I think the shadow of Resident Evil 4 in both of its incarnations looms over the series. The original was so revolutionary that it changed expectations of RE, but also raised the bar so high that anything else feels like a disappointment. Even the Remake isn't as good.

I know Capcom can't simply continue to go bigger with each installment, but Grace was the perfect answer to that. Her opening segment feels remarkably like RE2, but then by the end, she has amassed so much power that any decision-making stops. You can just blow everyone away.

The immediate reaction is, "Wow. That kind of stunk," but that doesn't quite sum up how I feel. I guess I was expecting something that reckoned with the history of the series more, not to mention gave each character more interesting scenarios to fight through. Leon's campaign is like diet RE4.

I’m a bit mixed on Resident Evil Requiem. It has a lot of things enjoyable about it, but its tendency to “play the hits” and its absolute failure to deliver interesting stakes or foes makes it feel a little phoned in. I have to process the game a bit, but I’m not so sure on it.

On the subject of "bad films," I still have good memories of 8 Crazy Nights because it was one of the few things that made me smile during an otherwise miserable time of my life. And I never thought I'd own a sketch of my favorite character of all time from the director of it years later, either.

No critic or writer needs to cover the recent Harry Potter news or show when it airs. Even through some lens of cultural impact, you’re just lining Rowling’s pockets to continue her anti-trans crusade. We already know the franchise is big, so let it be. Cover something else that actually deserves it

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is one of the movies of all time.

Let’s not do the Mario movie discourse again. It’s fine that the first movie wasn’t good and you enjoyed it. You can like “bad” things. I promise, the world won’t end.

I've been watching the reboot of Girl from Nowhere, and I don't really know how I feel. It pales in comparison to the original two seasons, but I'm not sure if expectations are holding me back from appreciating what it does. Then again, that fourth episode is kind of wack.

I completely missed it yesterday, but happy 36th birthday to Hedwig Tam. Here’s to another year of wonderful movies from my favorite modern HK star.

Limited Run’s Marvel Maximum Collection is a pretty good compilation of retro Marvel games, though it’s a shame only X-Men Arcade has online support.

Guess we’re getting that Top Gun sequel sooner than I thought.

I wish I shared the same enthusiasm for Stranger than Heaven as others seem to have, but RGG Studio is nearly dead to me after Kiwami 3. I don’t know how it can recover after hiring a sexual predator for a character.

Re: Fox McCloud in the Super Mario Galaxy Movie, I wish advertisers and marketing teams would go back to letting things be a surprise. It would have been cool to see that in the theater unexpectedly instead of just knowing everything. Then again, the first Mario movie was just references, so...

Last one for today, I took a look at VF5’s Switch 2 port and walked away very impressed. If this is what we can expect from fighting games on Nintendo’s platform, then we have nothing to worry about.

Heretic 2's always been kind of a pain in the ass to get working on modern PCs. Heretic2R is a new reverse-engineered source port that alleviates much of this, and its first release just dropped: github.com/m-x-d/Heretic2R

Ladies, gentlemen, beloved they/thems, we sit at $214. For a mere $36 extra dollars a month, you can have Even More Skybox. Sounds like a good deal to me.

I provided a video essay on the recurring elements in director Toshiaki Toyoda’s “Wolf Mountain” series for this release. I’m very proud to be included on this as Transcending Dimensions was one of the best films of 2025.

Make sure to catch this in theaters. Director Kenji Tanigaki has been making waves for years now, and he's nearly about to break out into the big time.
