I love my elders that hold it down at the voting booth with everything in my being AND rage at the politicians that let them down year after year. We must be able to honor our beloved ancestors’ struggles BY envisioning, demanding and creating better for them NOW. Not be driven by fear to silence.

I’m scared that without having tough convos our progressive family is going to be stuck at war with each other forever — but I know we *can* do it. We just have to have the courage to face each other & stop letting donors drive the agenda. Can you imagine that cross-generational people power?

But there’s a major issue: the David Hoggs of the world need to listen to the fears of those elders telling him to keep it down & stop dismantling what they fought to build. They are also accountable & have to address (& prepare for!) the downstream consequences of “shaking things up.” Build trust.

This has to be a two-way street and I'm sorry to say a lot of our elders are not actually willing to cede power. I understand why young people are increasingly impatient with them.
