/7 For those who asked, the letter being sent by text message probably signifies they don't have a current address or email for the woman, but have a cell phone number, and are desperate to threaten immediately.

"actual malice or reckless disregard for the truth," does sound like something from tv lawyering

Am I wrong to think there are 2 truths here? I think Swallwell and team are suspicious. 2: The timing of this? VERY suspicious.

If I learn something bad about you, and I'm running against you in a political race, I'm going to release it at the time that is best for me. Which is the most suspicious time.

Both things are entirely possible.

I think the women really didn't want to come forward & were pressured (by whom, who knows? another Dem? Republicans? Could be either) but it also looks very much like he's another fucking predator.

I don't think the timing here is that suspicious, honestly. There's still weeks before the election. I haven't even gotten my ballot yet (not that Swalwell was near the top anyway) and there's still some time for additional info to come out before we all vote.

How is delivering an official letter via text legit? I’ve been getting “court summons” before Judge John Smith for traffic violations via text. This would immediately go to spam and block.

If a cell number is all I have & my message requires immediate attention, I will send a letter by text. If you want something to stop immediately, you get your message to the person as quickly as possible, however you can. We no longer have the option to look up names & addresses in phone book.

The letter makes me think they didn’t know the accusation was coming. It reads as if written by a lawyer who doesn’t specialize in defamation (or “reputation management”), & Swallwell is probably smart enough to have had one in place if he’d been prepared. And the flailing tone is rushed.

I'm no lawyer, but I've been around quire a few, including some family members. I'll ask one to look at this and tell me what she thinks.

However, my gut reaction is also that this just barely *might* a dirty political trick, or Swalwell is guilty. Anybody see another non-science fiction option?

Is this different than the Chinese girlfriend/spy that Trump was insinuating? Did Trump get a C&D?
