Art, History, Comics, Film, and Assorted Geekiness

One pre-show commission set for HeroesCon. Looks like I need to get focused on who else to reach out to.

Tonight’s feature film: “The Rocketeer” (1991). Felt like watching something fun. Probably my favorite comics-adapted film. Also, Dave Stevens has a cameo as the rocketpack test pilot in the footage watched in Howard Hughes’ office.

Jumping ahead a few centuries and now watching the TNG episode “Deja Q”. A fun episode and I like the friendship that forms between Q and Data. May be coincidental, but I remember a later episode in which Q was his usual dismissive self to the crew, except Data was the only one he didn’t mock.

Now watching “Silver Blaze”. Jeremy Brett’s Holmes being almost giddy at the prospect of an intriguing case and encouraging Watson to join him is a delight to watch.

Inspired by @comicsinthega.bsky.social, tonight I’ll be watching some of Jeremy Brett’s portrayal of Sherlock Holmes. The definitive Holmes, for me. First up will be “The Devil’s Foot”, a favorite of mine. The limited special effects helped make Holmes’ withdrawal/fever dream even more surreal.

Another intense episode. I’m guessing next week’s episode is going to have certain characters unhinged.

Well, I won’t be listening to that Billy Joel song, again, without thinking of that scene.

Mark Evanier posted more info about the original art that was stolen from him, he included a link to a pdf he made detailing what was stolen. Heartbreaking and hopefully all sorts of things happen to the perps. www.newsfromme.com/2026/04/07/more-about-the-missing-masterpieces/

Trying to eat healthier, but have had a few slips. Though I have a doctor’s appointment on Friday, tonight I opted for my default comfort food and ordered from a local Thai restaurant, and I’ll be picking up my order in about 20 minutes. Plan to eat and zone out until “Daredevil: Born Again” is on.

Another of the stolen pieces of original art from Mark Evanier’s collection (by Carmine Infantino and Murphy Anderson). I hope it’s recovered. www.newsfromme.com/2026/04/05/another-missing-masterpiece/

On his blog, Mark Evanier wrote about someone who stole several pieces of original art he’s owned for decades, from Dave Stevens and Jack Kirby (who had each given him the art, personally), amongst other works. I hope they catch the scumbag. www.newsfromme.com/2026/04/01/missing-masterpieces/

Enjoyable movie, overall. Ends with the saddest outro music of any show.

Picked up some Thai food from a nearby restaurant and felt like watching something fun, the 1988 tv movie “The Incredible Hulk Returns”. Features an early live-action Thor. A somewhat relaxing Saturday. Wild singledom!

Today and tomorrow are “cheat days”. Trying to eat better, but while out take it care of some errands, earlier, came across some of these still on sale. It’s the last weekend for these, so why not?

Apropos for today. A song by @ericidle.bsky.social that’s certainly cheered me up, in the past. youtu.be/uAzwji5Cfmk?si=Kmq3OWvoNXZ-mBEA

Had recently redeemed a gift card that I had been given for Christmas and picked up this box set. Some nice 80s animation.
