One of the hallmarks of this cohort is any time any form of their dumb bullshit gets thrown back at them, or used some way they dislike, is crying "No, not that way!"

See Florida. Or Texas. They've walked back laws because they didn't think it'd apply evenly. No coloured lights on bridges (Pride), also meant no red, white, and blue for July 1st.
