One of my fave theologically-focused YouTubers, ReligionForBreakfast, has a GREAT breakdown up of the data behind the current "GEN Z RETURNS TO THE CHURCH IN RECORD NUMBERS!" scam.

In short: it's just not happening and no reputable data set supports it.

Of interest to me is the observation that being nonreligious is very "sticky." People raised w/o religion tend to STAY nonreligious in adulthood; On the other hand, a child raised by two Christian parents has a 50/50 chance of remaining Christian.

So, religiosity tends to trend downward overall.

Tom Nicholas has talked about this a lot. finding that a lot of people are reporting that they go to church in surveys, but when you send people to count the bodies in pews, they aren't there
