Photography and bullshit, not necessarily in that order. If you follow me for photography be ready to put up with some bullshit; if you follow me for bullshit good news, you'll also get to see some pretty pictures time to time as a bonus!

He/they

If you just made plain soap with some green coloring in it and called it "cilantro scented" you could trick ~15% of the population

But non-journalists see that and think that means you should actually go in to an interview not knowing anything when actually to do that well you do need to the work both to know the right "dumb" questions and to do due diligence on the subject's credibility/claim to expertise in the first place

A problem I've noticed with the proliferation of interview programming in new media is there is an effective style of interview, especially interviewing experts, where the interviewer takes on the role of the least informed audience member to give the subject the opportunity to explain to that level

I don't know how to explain to the people who pop up when creatives complain about "AI" to say there are legit uses for it just how much they sound like someone saying "Well actually fire is used to make bread" when people are talking about an organized arson ring burning down their fucking houses

Shredded* cheese has no place on my plate as a raw ingredient, if you're not going to be at least partially melting it cut or crumbled pieces are always going to be texturally better (and tbh in many cases they're better even if you are melting)

*Not grated, that's a different thing

Comparing notoriously harsh Finnish clinics to our American clinics is apples to oranges.

Sure, Finnish researchers are probably playing methodological games, but you don't need to know that to see that their data has no bearing on gender affirming care, bc affirming care isn't offered in Finland.

When you spend an evening doing stuff and not looking at internet/news and then you pop on socials and everyone's saying "hey there's awful shit out there tonight it's OK to look away" and you can't decide if you need to find out what that 's about or just be thankful you missed it and go to bed

I also like, don't understand the economy I guess, but why does a 24-hour diner need to produce a steady stream of video content? Who is that for?

Look we all know "podcast" is a bad name and it's weird that they're named for a device that not everyone was using to listen to them even when they started and almost none are now, but it could be worse, they could have been called some version of "audioblog" đŸ¤®

(I mean removing the aspect of "you are making assumptions using a gendered term of address," obviously the ways in which it comes across hostile also have more than a whiff of gender involved too...)

Even removing gender from it I have never been called "bro" by a stranger and not had it come across as hostile and shitty

One reason I push back a little on the nuclear talking point is that it takes away from the seriousness of a conventional escalation of this type. The gravity of taking out a country's power grid is in itself very serious. It can spiral really far out of control.

The deleterious effects of not having a hobby are becoming a defining point in this cultural moment—and who is poised to help? That’s right: the autistics. Job fair day where we all set up tables explaining our deep dives and give people a hand out, a path back to society.

It's frequently pointed out that NASA activities (and basic/exploratory science in general) have a fantastic return on investment, contributing far more to the economy than they take. But even if they didn't, no one's actually taking from the "cure sick people" pot to put money in the "rockets" pot.

Just realized how easy it is to fit Madeline to a Beastie Boys cadence and I will never be the same

In an old house in Paris
That was covered in vines
Lived twelve little girls
In [shouted in unison] TWO STRAIGHT LINES!

Hot gamer take: Achievements should be for doing skillful, improbable, or very stupid things and not for reaching plot milestones or first engaging with core game mechanics, I don't need prizes for just playing through the game I'm doing that anyways

I know this is my unreasonableness, but one of my pet peeves is people trying to humorously insist on internally pluralizing phrases where an internal plural does not make sense. You use that form when the original compound/phrase is noun-adj, you can't just pluralize the adjective on an adj-noun!

Interesting parallel to good TTRPG GMing, you can do all the planning in the world (and usually best to do at least some) but if it isn't landing with the players or if something more interesting comes up in the process of getting there you follow that and act like that was the plan all along...

Recently had a family member visit and during some downtime they were scrolling their feed with sound on and after a while just repeatedly hearing one after another 10-15 second bit of audio repeated two and a quarter times each started making me feel like there were ants crawling on my brain

One of the new media things that misses me the hardest is I guess people like and/or don't mind that shortform video all autorepeats and don't feel the need to stop that shit instantly?
