Both Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu and My Master Has No Tail were made with a shoestring budget compard to this and they both used elegant framing, deliberate (and sometimes quite dramatic) compositions and careful sound mixing to convey a rakugo performance being enthralling and excellent.
