If I knew how to write, I'd add some mention that nothing really gives any of us any birthright to any artificial boundaries in order to keep "others" out. We are ALL human beings who had no say in where we were born on this single planet. Nobody should have the right to say, "you can't come here!".

The amount of welfare benefits that any undocumented immigrants receive is vanishingly small and not very common, but since most undocumented workers pay taxes, they are entitled to welfare benefits. Their SSNs are asecond-class identity that does not grant them the full benefits they pay for.

On top of that, undocumented migrants often don't have legal protection or avenues to seek justice and are often taken advantage of and underpaid. Often the jobs they do don't pay enough for documented workers to want to do. They're just trying to survive. They aren't taking our jobs. Layoffs are.

Sorry, but that is wrong. It is not an either or. Both can be factors. For low income folks, illegal immigration is an issue. Jobs need to get done. Wages will grow until then. Illegals will work for less than min wage, leaving legals at a disadvantage. Issue is BOTH workers and business owner.

We need to work harder, have more children and have a more equal society. In immigrants home countries it is even worse.

Yep. The only immigration crisis is how long it takes to get in legally. Immigrants, even undocumented ones, are a demonstrable boon to the country. They pay taxes, they purchase goods, they commit fewer crimes than the native population. The few negatives are far outweighed by the positives.

I basically agree with this - it is abhorent the way Trump made these people scapegoats and objects of, if not outright hatred, at least mistrust and fear. On the other hand, I think the US needs an immigration policy that treats those coming to our country with kindness and dignity and empathy.

I think the immigrants are a bit of a problem. They may not be getting social security, but they're also not paying taxes and getting no protections from exploitative working conditions and modern day slavery. Most are clearly productive members of society that deserve citizenship!
