We’re slowly starting to see a few birds returning for the summer and my favourite has already arrived!
This is our friend crow. She injured her wing a few years ago so it droops. We’re never sure if she’ll make it back, but here she is!
Welcome back crow!

What a glorious bird. I’m surprised there aren’t a few crows kicking around all year, certainly a few in Winnipeg make a go of it.

She’s wonderful, and we do. We’re just outside or Saskatoon and while we rarely see one here, there are a few that overwinter in Saskatoon with the giant ravens.
And who knows, our crow may be one of them, but most seem to go a bit farther south.

Thanks Rob, she’s by far the most accepting crow to my presence.

Aw, how nice you have a crow friend. They remember people, you know. I'm glad she's back. ❀️

What a gorgeous portrait! You're so lucky to have a friend crow. We feed our neighborhood crows -- they stay in northeastern Massachusetts year-round -- but it's been few years since we've had a "friend" crow.

Thank you and yes, we are very lucky! We’ve had crows in the neighbourhood for years , but they do leave us for the winter… can’t blame them🀣
It would be great to have them year round!

We’re always so thrilled to see her. Every crow that comes in we’re looking at for that drooping wing.

She's beautiful. My mom has a friend crow named Jasmin that always comes in her yard w/her family. Jasmin has a dropping wing as well. They're amazing birds!

Oh how cool! They are amazing and it’s such a privilege to have them accept us, like Jasmin. I think we need to give Crow a better name🀣

Crows are intelligent. But I'm not a fan.

I can understand that. I always try to remember that they are just doing what they need to do to survive and raise their families. They don’t kill or steal food for pleasure. Life as a wild animal is tough.

Pretty expressive look and posture from this crow...almost as if she is about to give a young crow some advice on life.

One of my neighborhood crows has unfortunately* trained me. It flies in and perches on the fence in my building parking lot, then caws until I come out on the balcony and toss it a peanut (roasted, unsalted, in shell).

*I say β€œunfortunately” because it has called me at least ten times today.

Does she bring friends, or is she solo?

She definitely brings a friend. There’s one with her now, and we generally see her, a baby or two, and her mate in the summer.
However, there are quite a few crows around, and she only lets a select few in the yard🀣

We are always leery of getting her too used to people, because … people.
But she usually comes in when I’m out there and has brought her baby into the yard for the last few years. She often leaves it here for us to keep an eye on 🀣
