One of my neighborhood crows has unfortunately* trained me. It flies in and perches on the fence in my building parking lot, then caws until I come out on the balcony and toss it a peanut (roasted, unsalted, in shell).

*I say “unfortunately” because it has called me at least ten times today.

My crows are pretty demanding also. The peanuts appear on demand. They have left me wonderful gifts and I think it’s great that I walk out on my deck and then they all materialize. Best gift was an unopened bag of Halloween candy.

That is a fantastic gift. We’ve gotten some cool rocks!

I’ve yet to receive any gifts other than the joy of watching a beautiful bird swooping gracefully down to get a peanut.

But I really did do this backwards. You’ve got the right idea: You go outside and the crows appear. Whereas with me the crow shows up and demands that I appear. :)

I think this crow has also inadvertently trained a couple of the neighborhood squirrels, who now show up when they hear the caws because they might get a bit of peanut.
