nope! prescott cores didn't have *any* memory controller! that's the secret: the chipset on a socket 478 or lga-775 motherboard was the northbridge that handled all dram and pci/agp/pcie connections, and it connected to the cpu via the front side bus.

the p3 computer we had as a kid had a socket to card style cpu adapter in it because my dad didn’t read the specs on the parts he bought on eBay closely enough.

apparently there are some adapters that exist that allow using socket 479 mobile cpus in socket 478 motherboards, and i would be surprised if the mod to use lga-771 xeons in lga-775 motherboards didn't work in reverse.

electrically it probably works but good luck getting a bios to cooperate.
