They’re feeding fighter jets to the seas like they’re shelter cats but sure, the communication service that unites our nation is the problem.

The communication service that's only a big money-loser because Republicans forced them to pre-fund their pension by vastly more than the few other employers which still have pensions do.

That was retiree health care, and they got rid of the prefunding mandate.

Anything that serves ordinary Americans is running out of cash or has been defunded like healthcare, cancer research, SNAP benefits, forest services, FEMA programs only $$ for the Epstein elites and private jet for Melania that cost $140M ballrooms $400M

"feeding fighter jets to the seas like they’re shelter cats" is a metaphor that's going to stick with me

I don’t think I’m the first to make this comparison, it’s just that this tweet lives in my head now:

Can we ask Iran to fund the Postal Service?

USPS used to receive tax funding, but was reorganized in 1970/1971 to be mandatorily self-funding. That's the problem now. Operating costs shoot up (cough fuel) but there's no adaptive governmental funding source.

This is free market capitalism as intended, for bad or for worse.

That was part of the deal along with collective bargaining.

Maybe we should get rid of that along with the self-funding mandate, though.

Any other branch of government, asked to run itself like a business, would look like a colossal failure. The question is not whether USPS has failed, it's how much do we as a nation value a committed and reliable communication service. USPS has been dependable. I can't say the same for FedEx.

The fact that military spending is a much *bigger* waste of money doesn't make our government subsidized junk mail delivery service a good value.

I just went to the post office to send a package. If you don’t bring your own sealing tape, you have to buy it. The people there were very kind and taped it all up for me.
Trump wants to get rid of the post and privatize all mail. FedEx etc

I wonder if they’ve thought of actually delivering mail to where it’s addressed? I have packages routed thousands of miles out of the way when I track them.

Right?

If the Post Office “lost $9 billion,” does that mean the Department of WAR! “lost” $1 trillion? The intelligence services “lost” $100 billion?

Remember when the USPS was the place everyone wanted to work for, because they had great benefits

They only had that *because* of the requirement that it act like a business and fund itself. That was the bargain struck in the 1970 Postal Reorganization Act.

They give the Pentagon even more billions than they ask for every year and are now asking for a trillion
The Pentagon has failed 8 straight audits

Kristi Noem gets an artisanal cuck jet but sending and receiving letters and packages, even to rural communities, that’s outlandish.

Sad reminder that the USPS is one of the largest employers of veterans, too.
