If more people understood the stakes, things might not feel (be) so hopeless. And everyone on here knows what we are up against in terms of the press and social media. So we should do what we can.

Often people laugh or brush things off because they don’t care, but plenty of times they do it because they are scared of what it would mean to take it seriously. You don’t have to yell at people or be strident. You can simply, through your tone and bearing, remind them that this is all real.

I had to teach myself how to do this because of the way that some undergrads I taught reacted to historical atrocities. To find ways to get students to sit with things like chattel slavery long enough to understand and feel. It was part of helping them grow. But everyone can still grow.
