The thing is though that with trans folks, especially people who use they/them, the person who has used the wrong pronouns often plainly asserts that they’ve been inconvenienced and implies that the person is wrong to use they/them.

I constantly attend appointments and meetings with trans/enby clients, and witness responses like “uh well I’ll try, but this trans stuff is new to me” or who will push back when a kid corrects them. “Well uh you are a boy though.”

Last week I sent someone at a state agency a packet of of medical reports all using the correct pronouns. For a kid whose legal gender is X, not that that should matter. The Massachusetts state employee responded with tons of questions referencing the medical care, using only wrong pronouns.

This is exactly why I wrote the post. Credit to those who at least try to address transgender pronouns. Those that refuse are using their privilege to marginalize people they don’t want to understand and, frankly, are afraid of.

You can’t control other people’s ignorance🤷🏻‍♂️

Oh for sure. I’m just adding that a whole lot of people seem embarrassed/apoloegtic if they misgender a cis person (or a baby, or a pet…) but then act inconvenienced if they misgender a trans person. Your experience with getting misgendered isn’t going to be the same.
