I don't understand why the govt hasn't already moved to Phase 2 of the fuel crisis plan. All it involves is encouraging fuel saving, and surely it would have been prudent to start that a couple of weeks ago? Nicola seems desperate to do nothing. #nzpol

They’re in a tight spot because they’ve spent the best part of three years openly attacking or quietly undermining everything we could do to save fuel — walking, cycling, WFH, public transport.

and attacking the COVID response, which they are getting very close to needing to follow with telling people to work from home, support with finances etc.

They are praying a miracle will pull them out of it.

my guess: holding that back so when things get worse they can bump it up to claim they're doing something while doing nothing

This warning in the NFP about encouraging conservation maybe a (not very good) reason: “This is only considered a practicable option when managing a long-term supply disruption where immediate stocks are not at threat (panic buying will be a likely result otherwise)”
