Love New Mexico & cats.

Social media posts are my own views and do not reflect my employer.

Here is a slightly revised, and much prettier, version of my new working paper on the impact of walking distance on first year student performance. To our knowledge, this is the first study to measure this effect, which proved significant and surprisingly large.

He conceded. I'll give him that.

I'm guessing he didn't want to wind up like a fellow in Romania who outlived his welcome.

I have had the opportunity to see Tim speak in minimally political settings (everything is a bit political, of course), and have had the opportunity to ask him questions in person, privately. He is one of the smartest pols I have met, and he is also a very considerate and compassionate person.

I'm sure this weird set of precepts, backed by head-shaking stupid arguments and misconstrued historical "evidence" is the way to live!

And pastor Wilson needs to be introduced to the concept of selection bias.

One of the most intriguing images I have ever taken of my own laptop screen! Live video from Artemis II as is screams toward earth at over 20K MPH.

Don’t you just love when your cat snuggles up close to you at two in the morning, takes one sniff of you, and sneezes massively in your face?

Didn’t think so.

In 2029, ArcelorMittal will be "asked" politely to contribute steel to the rebuilding of the East Wing, after Trump's monstrosity has been torn down. They will understand that it is a request that they cannot refuse ...

This is gonna be a sports trivia question a decade from now.

Name the high school whose graduates won the Naismith Award and the Heisman Trophy in the same academic year.

@mclem.org is talking about hypocrisy (and more).

I would like to add that many universities led by staunch Republicans -- and Mitch Daniels at Purdue comes to mind -- kept tuition down for Americans by pushing the envelope on admitting foreign students who pay full price.

The only Republicans who seem to have any moral center are the ones who have resigned their seats, and their "rediscovery" of character is so flimsy because of that.

GOP delenda est.

This party must be completely destroyed in order to restore even a shred of character to the American nation.

Who in the Democratic leadership has the gonads to say publicly to our military that following illegal orders from Trump (to commit actual war crimes) will be investigated and prosecuted starting in 2029?

Our generals need to know right now that they can be held to account, disgraced, and jailed.

2/ They tell us "We're not one-issue voters, see!" "Trans people out of girls' bathrooms!" "Killer illegals!" "Democrats are baby-killers!"

The GOP has cemented rural America until some future political earthquake.

Many people who voted for him easily rationalize their continued support for him and for the GOP's dismantling of America's physical and policy infrastructure.

Farmers are another pro-Trump group who continue to downplay the consequences of tariffs, the Iran war, and collapsing rural health care.

Surely the military officers that associate themselves with Hegseth and Trump understand that a Democratic win in 2028 will lead to their own dismissals. They will be regarded as unprofessional careerists who advanced over the bones of their more qualified colleagues. www.nytimes.com/2026/04/02/us/politics/hegseth-fires-general-randy-george.html?unlocked_article_code=1.YFA.U0hy.XR28sNnD0JSD&smid=bs-share

They SHOULD be afraid. They should also count on it. The brazen lawbreaking and self-dealing is breathtaking. Unprecedented in US history. Their behavior calls for an unprecedented series of investigations that could lead to thousands of indictments.

I do have to correct the BBC, however. SLS isn't the most powerful rocket ever built. It's the most powerful built by NASA.

2/ In those days many of our leaders (Republicans included!) had brainpower and integrity. Schultz was a marine veteran who earned a Ph.D. in economics from MIT. He served on the Council of Economic Advisors and was the dean of the School of Business at the University of Chicago.

Secretary of State George Schultz used to receive a 50-100 page written brief daily that he digested over breakfast. It contained a few pages of essential information that he might need for his day's work from the prior day's events in every nation in the world.
