The sales tax isn't my favorite vehicle for supporting anything (I‘d always go to the progressive income tax) but it is remarkably stable. That’s why the ballpark bonds are getting paid off so early.

Will admit I’m extremely confused by Roseville State Rep John Huot’s argument against the Hennepin County ballpark tax as a vehicle for saving HCMC. It’s levied on countywide sales, not ballpark sales … www.minnpost.com/community-health/2026/04/lawmakers-seek-solutions-hcmc-financial-tipping-point/

Minneapolis conservatives: “city staff needs to stop wasting time on bathhouses when we have MORE IMPORTANT PRIORITIES”
City staff: “MAK HYPE REEL!!!!”

(Barnette’s position, Director of the Office of Community Safety, would still require confirmation IIRC)

Reminder that as a judge, Todd Barnette appointed many of the Charter Commissioners who are now trying to remove the Minneapolis City Council’s power to approve several department heads, an approval Barnette just failed to get as a department head.

Elizabeth Shaffer is such a bluenose, there‘s a legit debate to the bathhouse issue, but making this a “we don’t have time” thing is basically conservative trolling www.startribune.com/minneapolis-city-council-vote-bathhouses/601664275?utm_source=gift

ResolutionGate is thoroughly silly, but there are 134 precincts in Minneapolis so getting 6 to vote yes (4%) is a real self-own. (Our precinct laughed this one out of the room.)

I guess it’s ok that Minneapolis hotel guests are paying to hype Minneapolis restaurants that might get us more hotel guests.

Thanks everyone for inquiring after me. Lazer helmet did its job. Would’ve been bad had I not been wearing it, since head took a thump. No concussion symptoms like light sensitivity or blackout, no neck or back pain. Mildly bruised wrist where I fell. A little knee scrape.

By the way much thanks to Recovery Bike Shop on Central NE, heard my sad story and wrenched my handlebars back into alignment, no charge.

Had a nasty bike crash today. The fucking porte cochere everyone warned the city about at the downtown Minneapolis Four Seasons. Car blocking the bike path so I went into the street, tried to slide back onto path from the other end of the U-shaped driveway, but it wasn’t flush with the street, bang.

Wait; you can veto a Minneapolis department head confirmation and the commissioner stays? Huh? Doesn’t the person have to be affirmatively confirmed?

Very cool idea that’s near and dear to my heart - take this survey to help bring an indoor playground to downtown Minneapolis: mplsindoorplaygroundsurvey.netlify.app/
